Workplace Giving
Every pay day, a small gift can go towards training a heart surgeon
Workplace Giving is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to make a lasting difference. By donating a small amount from your pre-tax pay, you help train the next generation of cardiac surgeons from across Asia — surgeons who return home to save lives in their own communities.
Your gift goes further when you give through work, and many employers will even match it. That means more surgeons trained, more heart operations performed, and more families keeping the people they love.
Why Workplace Giving matters
Heart disease is the world's leading cause of death. Yet in many parts of Asia, there are far too few surgeons trained to perform the complex operations that could save patients' lives.
Dr Victor Chang believed the answer was to share skills across borders. In 1984, he founded the Victor Chang Foundation to bring heart surgeons from Asia to Australia to train alongside world-leading teams — and then return home to teach others. Your regular gift continues his work by:
Training cardiac surgeons from Asia through VCF Surgical Fellowships at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney and other hospitals in Australia
Multiplying impact, as each Fellow returns home to operate, teach and build cardiac units in their own country
Funding innovation in heart surgery, such as new devices and equipment used in training
Strengthening friendship and collaboration between Australian and Asian medical communities
This is how Dr Chang's legacy lives on — with you, and because of you.

Workplace Giving FAQs
Want to know how to join, or how to set up a program at your workplace? Read our FAQs.
-
Workplace Giving (also called payroll giving) lets you donate regularly to causes you care about, directly from your pre-tax salary. Donations are deducted automatically from your pay, so there's no extra paperwork or effort.
-
You choose how much you'd like to give from each pay. Your donation is deducted automatically before tax each pay cycle, so you receive the tax benefit straight away. Some employers also match your donation, doubling its impact.
-
If your employer offers Workplace Giving, you can sign up through your HR or payroll team, or through your company’s giving platform. Simply choose the Victor Chang Foundation and the amount you’d like to give from each pay. If you’re not sure whether your workplace has a program, ask your HR team. If your employer doesn’t offer Workplace Giving, you can still give regularly by setting up a monthly gift, or contact us, and we can help you get a program started.
-
It's one of the easiest and most tax-effective ways to make a difference. Your regular gift helps train cardiac surgeons from Asia, fund innovation in heart surgery, and carry forward Dr Victor Chang's vision — with almost no effort on your part.
-
If Workplace Giving isn't available to you, you can make a one-off or monthly donation on our website, fundraise for us through events such as City2Surf, or leave a gift in your Will. Every gift, large or small, helps save lives.
-
Many employers offer to match their employees' donations, often dollar for dollar. Check with your HR team to see whether your company does. If they don’t, then please suggest they do!
-
Your donations appear on your payslip or in your company's HR or giving portal, and are included in your end-of-year income statement, so you don't need separate receipts at tax time.
-
Your gift helps VCF Surgical Fellows gain the advanced surgical skills they need to operate on people with heart disease in their home countries, and supports innovation in heart surgery. Because each Fellow goes on to operate on and train others, even a small monthly gift reaches many patients. For example, $100 a month adds up to $1,200 a year, enough to pay for more than a week of a Fellow’s training.
-
Yes. You can change or stop your donation at any time through your HR or payroll team, or your company's giving platform.

No. They are separate charities. The Victor Chang Foundation is the charity Dr Chang founded himself in 1984, and it is still run by his family and a volunteer board. The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute was established after his death and carries his name, but it is a separate organisation. To support the work Dr Chang started – training heart surgeons from Asia and funding innovation in heart surgery – please make sure you select the Victor Chang Foundation (ABN 18 002 762 745).
